SGBA has implemented the following requirements for those interested in coaching:

1) Candidates are required to complete a coaching application for consideration. Elements of the application will include, but are not limited to, general personal information, acceptance of release waivers, and code of conduct terms & conditions.   

2) SGBA Board of Directors will select candidates upon review of completed applications. Coaching decisions will be made in accordance with SGBA bylaws and coaches selected for a position will be notified ASAP before seasons/programs commence.

3.) If selected as a coach, the candidates will need to: A.) pass a background check by the National Center for Safety Initiatives, LLC (NCSI)  B.) pass NFHS or CDC concussion training,  and C.) pass APS (Abuse Prevention Training.)   NOTE: If the candidate has proof of  NFHA or CDC Concussion Training within three years and proof of APS within two years, these two pieces of training are not needed.

All selected coaches will be required to successfully complete a concussion course and APS Training (Abuse Training.)

Two-course options are available for Concussion Training: 1) National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) “Concussion in Sports” or 2) Center for Disease Control (CDC) “Heads Up Concussion in Youth Sports”. Both courses are free and, once completed, valid for 3 years. Links to both courses are included below.

APS Training will be sent to coaches from a member of the SGBA Board Member to complete

PLEASE NOTE: If you have already successfully completed either of these two Concussion Training courses within the past three years and APS Training within the past two years, you DO NOT need to re-take them. Simply, email a copy of your previous certificate to the SGBA Travel Director. If you have not taken a course previously, please complete the training and email an electronic copy of your course certificate to: sgbapres@gmail.com and sgbatravel@gmail.com.
